While living in Japan I got interested in woodcut relief print making. I also worked in a large night club in Ginza, Tokyo doing carctatures. This night club had wonderful floor shows featuring Kabuki theater performances.  I began making woodcuts in Japan. I have continued to make woodcuts large and small.

One day while walking on the beach in Half Moon Bay, California, I found a large piece of drift wood almost six feet long, that reminded me of a large fish. I worked the wood texture and fashioned the head and tail of the fish. Then I rolled ink on the wood and hand printed it on fine oriental paper (rice paper).

I call it the Big Fish Kabuki because it is an expressive art form and reminds me of my time living in Japan. The big fish symbolizes a desire for profound personal growth through the vehicle of adventure, travel, and new challenges which has been a theme for my life.
